We are pleased to announce the successful launch of a new project at Genillard&Co supported by the EU’s main climate innovative initiative Climate-KIC. Together with the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Agriculture (ZAF) we will be focusing our risk analytics, developed for and conceptualized in our Agriculture Risk Metrics (ARM) platform, specifically on the needs of farmers. Due to climate change impact on the character of extreme weather events, farmers are suffering more frequently from the consequences of crop losses. Currently, there is an information gap to adequately respond to these increasing risks with appropriate adaptation measures. Whilst climate change information is available, it is often not easily accessible for the general public. Frequently it is not delivered in such a way that the risk is understandable so that ensuing decision-making is possible.
ARM, which was originally designed for the use by the insurance industry to improve their risk assessment, has recently been evaluated by ZAF to entail great opportunities for farmers in Croatia as well.
For this purpose, we will survey the application possibilities and usability of ARM by conducting interviews and stakeholder workshops with the farming community, to learn from them about their requirements and ideas. The aim is to identify how the above-mentioned information gap can be closed by adapting our current expert tool to the needs of farmers, thus providing them the information they need for successful adaptation strategies. In this way, regional expertise and social considerations affecting farming in Croatia are combined with the technical and methodological know-how of risk analysis. It is precisely this type of cooperation that is needed so that the climate risk information via ARM can be effectively used by farmers and initiate much needed action as a result.
With the support of our long-term tech-partner OSINT Analytics, we will be able to successfully translate the developed content-based concept into a user-friendly and operational feature of our web-based platform.
We look forward to developing our agro risk analytics and risk management solutions even further and encourage you to contact us for sharing know-how and ideas.
