INVITATION LETTER TO THE WORKSHOP
Dear colleagues,
Nowadays, agriculture is more than ever exposed to rapid changes due to climate change. Climate change is characterized by increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events for example drought and frost. This also applies for Croatia and it is foreseen that climate change will negatively affect the country’s GDP (per capita).
To tackle the serious effects of climate change on agriculture and food supply chains in Croatia, a partnership between Croatian Society of Agricultural Economists, University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, Croatia Osiguranje and Genillard & Co was initiated to take up this challenge. The workshop we invite you to is just one of the activities.
The University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture (FAZ) has as main strategic goals scientific excellence, innovation in research and collaboration with business sector in which agricultural risk management has been important component; contribution to the sustainable development of the Croatian economy and society as a whole and international cooperation in teaching and scientific-research area.
Croatia Osiguranje is the leading insurance company in Croatia and has been a part of Adris Group since 2014. The company was established on June 4, 1884 as Croatia Insurance Association. During 136 years, CO has constantly supported development of national economy, while simultaneously fulfilling all its obligations and justifying the purpose of its establishment: “We respectfully preserve what our people have been creating for over 130 years.”
Genillard & Co is a Consulting & Services company and can draw on many years of work and an excellent network in the insurance and reinsurance industry as well as in the agricultural sector. They advise primarily in emerging risks, the consequences of climate change for the agricultural economy, and natural hazards.
The Croatian Society of Agricultural Economists was founded with the aim of promoting the agro-economic and agro-sociological profession, and operates in the field of education, science and research, as well as professional work in the field of agribusiness and rural development.
The objectives of this workshop are:
- To increase awareness on consequences of climate change, in particular of climate risks on agriculture
- To advocate the need for improved and innovative risk management across all agricultural stakeholders
- To discuss with important stakeholders on suitable risk management tool.
We would like to invite you, as an active and important stakeholder in agriculture, to participate in this discussion and to point out your specific needs that could be implemented in a future risk management tools used in Croatia.
