Together with our partners Thomas Hlatky and Bruno Spicher, Genillard & Co hosted the 12th rendition of our “best practice” workshop on 9th April 2024 with a focus on risk management for natural hazards in the insurance industry.
The UNIQA Group kindly extended hospitality to our community at its headquarters in Vienna, for which we would like to express our sincere thanks.
42 risk experts stemming from academia as well as from working practice, came from Austria, Switzerland and Germany to take part.
In response to the events that occupied everyone in our industry 2023, earthquakes and the influence of climate change on natural hazards, particularly convective storms and heavy rain were the core topics of the programme.
Other key topics and discussions included in the workshop’s agenda were:
- Intelligent cartography: Mapping and zoning of natural hazards – Experiences with HORA 3D and new findings from modelling
- What do the earthquake events in 2023, e.g. the disaster in Turkey, show us? – Lessons learnt for insurers
- New earthquake map for Austria
- Risk identification and management in Switzerland: national precautionary planning, risk model, the organisation of claims
- Climate-driven trends in convective storms and heavy precipitation … Findings from science?
- Parametric Insurance Concepts – greater flexibility in times of changing risk situations
- Challenges in NatCat modelling with expert panel
- Nat Cat Data/ Data Management with expert panel
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all participants for their contributions to “best practice” and for the stimulating discussion.
